An OpenRouter alternative for EU teams: own models in the EEA, zero retention, one key

Heabsy is an alternative to OpenRouter when the deciding question is where prompts go: 12 open-weight models — Qwen3.8 27B, GLM 5.3, MiMo V2.6 Flash and their variants — run on our own GPUs in the European Economic Area, keep no prompts, and are billed by an EU company under a public data processing agreement. The same key also reaches 23 partner-hosted models such as Claude and GPT-6.

It is not an alternative when you need the widest catalog, the lowest price per token, or Claude and GPT processed in Europe — the section on when to stay with OpenRouter says so plainly.

Create a key

A router and an inference operator are different things

OpenRouter does not run models; it routes each request to one of its providers and handles keys, billing and fallback. That breadth is the point. Heabsy runs its own models: the GPU, the cache and the retention policy are ours, which is why we can say where a prompt is processed and that it is not stored. For models we do not run, we are a router too — and some of those partner-hosted requests reach their provider through OpenRouter, as our privacy policy states.

Does OpenRouter keep data in the EU?

It can, for prompts and completions: EU in-region routing sends requests to providers in the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and fails rather than leaving the region. It is available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Account data, billing records, authentication data, security logs and abuse-monitoring metadata may still be stored or processed in the US. Without that plan, the provider that serves a request decides where it runs.

With Heabsy's own models the EEA boundary is the default for every account, not a plan feature, and the contracting party, invoice and data processing agreement are European.

Switching from OpenRouter

  1. Change the base URL from https://openrouter.ai/api/v1 to https://api.heabsy.com/v1 and use a Heabsy key.
  2. Model IDs differ: qwen38, glm53, claude-sonnet-5.5. GET /v1/models lists exactly the ones your key may call.
  3. Claude Code and other Anthropic-API tools use https://api.heabsy.com without /v1 — see the Claude Code setup and the other integration guides.
  4. Give each app its own key with a budget and a model allow-list, so customer data can only reach the models you chose.

When to stay with OpenRouter

  • You need Claude, GPT or Gemini processed in Europe or with zero retention. Our partner-hosted versions have neither; OpenRouter's EU routing on Business does.
  • You want the widest catalog, free models, new releases on day one or image generation. We have 35 models, all answering in text.
  • Price per token is the deciding factor. Global routers are cheaper, for frontier models and for many open models, including Qwen3.8 27B.
  • You rely on your own provider keys, provider sorting or fallback across dozens of providers.
  • You need a contractual uptime SLA on self-service terms — ours is a separate agreement.

FAQ

Is there an OpenRouter alternative that keeps data in Europe?+

For open-weight models, yes: Heabsy runs 12 of them on its own GPUs in the European Economic Area and does not store prompts or completions. For Claude, GPT or Gemini with European processing, OpenRouter's EU in-region routing on its Business plan, or the EU regions of the large cloud providers, are the routes — our partner-hosted versions of those models carry no EEA guarantee.

Does OpenRouter store my prompts?+

According to its documentation, not unless you opt in to prompt logging; the provider that serves the request has its own policy, and a zero-data-retention setting limits routing to providers that do not retain. Account, billing and security records may be processed in the US.

Does Heabsy store my prompts?+

Not on our own models: text is processed in memory and not written to disk or logs. Partner-hosted models follow their providers' policies and have no zero data retention. What we do keep — billing metadata, application logs — is listed on the zero data retention page.

Can I get Claude with zero data retention at Heabsy?+

No. Claude and GPT models in our catalog are partner-hosted, without zero data retention and without an EEA guarantee. Zero retention and EEA processing apply to our own open-weight models.

Do I have to choose one?+

No. You can keep OpenRouter for breadth and send the requests that carry customer data to our own models. Both speak the OpenAI API, so it is a different base URL and key per client, not a rewrite.
