Cline with an OpenAI-compatible API: connect Heabsy

In Cline choose the API provider "OpenAI Compatible", set the base URL to https://api.heabsy.com/v1, paste your Heabsy key and enter a model ID such as qwen38. Then fill in Model Configuration — context window and max output — so Cline manages the conversation with the right limits.

Step by step

  1. Open Cline in VS Code and click the gear icon.
  2. API Provider: OpenAI Compatible. Base URL: https://api.heabsy.com/v1 — without /chat/completions.
  3. API Key: your Heabsy key. Model ID: the exact catalog ID, for example qwen38 or glm53.
  4. Click Verify.
  5. Open Model Configuration and enter Context Window and Max Output Tokens from the table below, enable Image Support for models that read images, and add the input and output prices if you want Cline's cost counter to be right.

Which model should I pick?

Cline drives everything through tool calls, so a model without tool calling will not work. All models in the table support it; our own run in the EEA without storing prompts.

All models above run on Heabsy hardware in the EEA; prompts and completions are not stored. Thecatalog also lists 23 partner-hosted models — Claude, GPT-6, Kimi K3, DeepSeek V4 and others — with the same key and invoice, but without zero data retention and without an EEA guarantee.

Verify it works

Ask Cline to list the files of your workspace. If it calls the tool and shows the list, the connection and tool calling both work; the request also appears in the Logs page of your Heabsy console.

If the tool shows an error you cannot read, test the key on its own first — one short request outside the tool:

curl
curl https://api.heabsy.com/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $HEABSY_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"qwen38","max_tokens":16,"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Say hi"}]}'

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to change
404 Not FoundThe base URL contains /chat/completions or lacks /v1. Use exactly https://api.heabsy.com/v1.
The model answers in text but never uses toolsPick a model with tool calling from the table, and make sure Cline is on a current version — native tool calling for OpenAI Compatible arrived in early 2026.
Cline truncates or summarises too earlyModel Configuration still has the default window. Enter the model's context window from the table.
401 UnauthorizedThe key field is empty or has a space at the end. Paste it again from the console.
403 with an HTML page ("Sorry, you have been blocked")No key was sent at all: the key variable is empty or not set where the tool runs. Requests without a key are stopped before they reach the API; a wrong key gets a JSON 401 instead.

Where do my prompts go?

From Cline straight to api.heabsy.com. On our own models the request is processed in the European Economic Area and the text is not stored — we keep what billing needs: the model, the token counts and the time. Partner-hosted models are processed by third-party inference providers; each is marked in the catalog, and none of them carries the no-retention promise. The terms are in the data processing agreement, the invoice comes from an EU company.

FAQ

Does Cline work with Qwen3.8 27B?+

Yes. qwen38 supports tool calling, has a 262,144-token window and costs $1 / $3 per million input / output tokens; it runs on our own hardware in the EEA.

Does prompt caching work through OpenAI Compatible?+

Yes, on our own models it needs no setting: requests of one conversation land on the GPU that already holds its prefix, and cached input is billed at the cached price shown in the catalog.

Coming from Roo Code?+

Roo Code shut down on 15 May 2026 and named Cline as a successor. The OpenAI Compatible settings are the same: base URL, key and model ID carry over unchanged.

Can I keep Cline's own models and add Heabsy?+

Cline uses one provider per configuration profile. Create a second profile for Heabsy and switch between them.
